How to Design Content for Google’s Phantom Update?

Google’s recent update in April/May, known as the “Phantom Update” which was designed to favour mobile-friendly sites in search results, had a disastrous effect on HubPages, which had a drop pf 22% of traffic! Out of its 100 top pages, 68 soon lost visitors one after the other. So, you can imagine how difficult it is to stand up to its standards. Though this update is not related to Google’s Panda and Penguin, it still considers your page’s content.
You must avoid low quality content that lacks real value. Hard-to-navigate pages, lots of unnecessary videos or links, duplicate posts – all of these should be avoided.

Increase user satisfying content

You must answer the following questions if you want to know how much customer satisfaction you have achieved through your pages.
What do the users want?
What are their queries?
Do you have enough optimized content for Google to consider?
Does your content build a good reputation about you?

Diversify your content

You must present your content in a different and interesting manner to add value to it in the eyes of the users. If you have long posts that are usually between 500 to 1000 words in length, you can divide them into subheadings or bullet points to break up the information and make it easy and interesting for the users to read. You can even add white papers or e-books to diversify your content. Broadening out your horizon will help you to come up with new topics and content that will create interest for the readers.

Avoid too many links

Before the phantom update, there were many websites with tag pages that were ranking well for keywords. They simply provided a large number of links that directed to other content on their site. Due to the presence of so many links, there was an automatic supply of more and more links due to infinite scrolling. What was worse was that the websites would send spammy pop-ups to visitors on their landing pages. These websites were all disregarded after the phantom update.

Having too many links that have little or no valuable content or too many ads on a page can harm you. You must reduce the number of links and ads or else add more relevant content. Having a mixture of valuable content along with other links and ads in such a way that it increases user experience is important.

Avoid duplicate content

If you have multiple pages with the same kind of content, then this duplicate content needs to be avoided. You can add some fragments of unique content or introductory lines to avoid from making it a duplicate.

Try keeping the content short and brief enough to provide important information to users. Avoid creating long articles so that the users lose interest. Make extra efforts to produce the right content in terms of quality and quantity to provide real value to your readers.
